Our trip on map - drove around 3000 mi (4800 km). Two days and one hour of
driving according to Google |
Rum and bacon ice cream, chocolate covered donuts, big pools, huge cars, intense heat, a zoo, real rodeo, amazing hospitality, tex-mex, problems chosing among the millions of choices when buying food, lots and lots of dogs ... We experienced it all the last two weeks! Our little road trip is over, and we are again stationed at Hopes place in Fayetteville, AR. When we left our new and old friends in Austin, we went to Houston, and one of the biggest Churches we have ever been to a regular service in. When we left there was a couple of police officers pointing all the cars in the right direction, stopping the regular traffic and trying to make the chaos as small as possible. On our way to the mall the next day, Hope took us on a little detour (30 min in the wrong direction) and bought us donuts. We had not yet tried an American donut, and decided to share one, not really wanting more than that. Not understanding a word of what the Asian man selling them said we managed to buy six donuts without knowing it. Never again. Another thing we thought never again to were tex-mex. Tex-mex is really good, but eating it every second day makes you dream about fish and carrots. No offence! everything was appreciated.
We left Houston and Hopes grandparents for Dallas and her aunt, uncle and cousins. Wondering if the delicious lasagna we got was considered tex-mex and if we had ever seen a fancier TV, we had a great time with the sons in the house, their dogs and cats. The next and last place we visited, we were met with the biggest smile you can imagine. We met up with Sam, our really good friend from YWAM Skien and one of his brothers in Tyler for lunch and smoothies. The 110f (43c) gave us no other option than spending the rest of the day in the pool and playing with Sams four dogs. Sam took us to watch the beautiful Texas sunset, to the zoo, to jump on hay bales (?) in the almost thunder storm and to a real rodeo - an amazing experience! We owe him.
When we got home yesterday John had arranged a party, but the two of us were so tired from waking up at five, driving and getting lost in Walmart (the honest truth) that we fell asleep long before the guests left. We hope they had a great time and that they didn't notice that we were gone. We send out a big thank you to everyone we met on our way, we have felt very blessed and welcomed the whole trip! Tanks to y'all this has been the real American experience!
